Our carbon footprint is verified to be neutral, which means that the sum or our greenhouse gas emissions (CO2equivalents) produced through our cattle and agricultural operations are offset by natural carbon sinks such as grasslands, forests and decarbonizing management practices. Our Carbon Neutral verification meets the ISO 14067 standards, developed in 2018 as a standard to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development goals of Climate Action.
We have received Uruguay’s certification for animal welfare, which recognizes our humane treatment of animals on the farm. We allow cattle to engage in natural behaviors that are important to their wellbeing. Our cattle have access to graze on pastures and natural fields and plentiful clean water. We supplement during periods of low forage availability to ensure they don’t feel hunger. We provide shade and space for cattle to roam freely in herds, and provide proper health care to avoid and reduce sickness. When we handle cattle, we do so in ways to minimize stress and pain.
Our Grass Fed cattle are born, raised and finished on fresh pastures all year long. We only supplement with stored grasses (hay and silage) during periods of winter and drought.
This protocol guarantees that animals whose beef ends up in the market have never received any antibiotics, hormones, or proteins of animal origin. We never use hormones, and we keep detailed health registries of each animal, and those that do have to get treated with antibiotics for sickness or disease, are excluded from the program.
