El Alamo focuses mainly on rearing and raising premium Aberdeen Angus cattle.
Aberdeen Angus has a higher marbling and is considered a more premium cattle for beef.
Uruguayan Angus certified beef exporters enjoy a 10 to 15% premium over non-certified exports.
To maximize quality, El Alamo works on a full cycle. We select the best of the heifers to grow our herd and sell the steers to feed lots.
We inseminate our breeding cows with high quality semen sourced from Uruguayan and Argentinian Aberdeen Angus bulls, in addition to cover from our own Aberdeen Angus bulls, chosen from amongst the best Uruguayan breeders.
We care for our cattle. We do not use hormones and only use antibiotics to treat infections to keep our cattle healthy.
We adhere to strict vaccination programs, and check our cattle on a daily basis. Eighty hectares of Eucalyptus tree curtains provide much needed shade for cattle. With more than 50 watering holes, powered by wind and solar energy to pump water out of wells, we ensure that our cattle have access to sufficient water during the dry season.
Our cattle are largely grass fed and roam over natural grass lands as well as managed pastures.
Two thirds of our grazing land is natural grass lands, and one third is high quality managed pastures.
In order to guarantee quality and health to our steers, we supplement our steers during the winter months in our drylots with sorghum and corn grown in our own agricultural fields.
The steers are fed a ration of minced sorghum, which provides fibre, mixed with vegetable based protein supplement sourced from our partners, in line with our quality specifications.
